You have helped clarify an ongoing, expanding aspect of our "Now". I hereby identify as INDIFFERENT to those (they?) who continue to try to tell me what to think, to say, or to do.
Amen! And California has just passed a law requiring larger companies to manufacture gender neutral dolls. This just adds food to the fodder of right wing pundits; a law of unintended consequences.
Hi Gregg-I think you've threaded the needle skillfully here.
My Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is very big on all this new gender stuff, and we are all invited to include our pronouns when we introduce ourselves. I usually say "I use 'he' pronouns". I don't see the point in saying 'he/him/his', because the rules of grammar take care of that. If I'm a 'he', then it's simply proper grammar that I will also use 'his' and 'him'.
I didn't like this new style at first, but I've come to see that it helps make gender-fluid people feel comfortable, knowing they are in a safe, welcoming space. And that's what UU's are all about.
Thank you for a timely piece on an apparently very sensitive topic. As for me, I recognize I am now past my best buy date. I will continue to show sensitivity to others as I have always tried to do, but let me be clear, I will always refer to my mom as my mom or my mother and not my birthing parent. And the same goes for my dad or father. He was my dad period, and I only had one of each. I guess if we are to be consistent words like 'person or human' should no longer be used as we are now doing away with 'mankind'. I understand it is about identity, but I fear this trend might just lead to the loss of all identity, clarity, and understanding, but hey what do I know, I am past my best buy date as it is.

Greg, this is really smart stuff that treads a fine line without getting yourself cancelled.
We agree with you. we being me, me being I, I being him, him being......WTF!
