Well, every faith system critiques wealth and its ostentatious display in the face of suffering and affliction. This is not new, nor is it the end of the story as each speaks of consequences, either in this life or beyond. I particularly like this passage from the Bhagavad Gita: “The demoniac person thinks: ‘So much wealth do I have today, and I will gain more… I am the lord of everything, I am the enjoyer…’” But ego and delusion have cost. Karma, as they say, is a bitch.

You know Elton gets all his eyeglasses at the same place I do: from Ottica Urbani the remarkable little family-owned shop run by the 5th generation Urbanis just behind the Piazza San Marco ... so really I am quite confident he came to Venice not for the music (or the performance fee!) but for the opportunity to enlarge his eyeglass collection !!

I’ve done my level best to ignore this extravagant waste of money. It’s certainly tasteless… but at the moment tnese are the defacto royal weddings…. Blecch.

There are several reasons I stopped watching CBS This Morning. Gayle is just one of many. The news is gone in the morning.

PS. I looked at my Washington Post this morning and couldn’t find the Metro Section. It was hidden behind the sports page.

I only get the Sunday paper in hard copy. I
