A couple decades ago I was invited to a party in Denver that capped off a US tour of a Russian folk dance group. They were wonderful talented people.

Curiously, a large easy chair had been placed in the middle of the living room. In it sat a silent,stern-looking man in a dark suit who did not move a muscle all evening. KGB.

Why expect something different from Putin and his subordinates. If there’d been free elections Navalny might have succeeded Putin and Russia might be at the beginning of change—- which would take a generation or more. But Putin needs total control and seems to have it 99 per cent of the time.

All so sadly true. The two books by Bill Browder, Red Notice and Freezing Order should be required reading for all Americans trying to comprehend Putin’s Russia.
